Manhole Covers of Rocklin, Placer County, California

Rocklin is a small but growing railroad station town along Interstate 80.   It occurs at an elevation of 249 feet above sea level, as the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills.   Rocklin has a population of 50,494, composed of 88.3% White and 7.9% Hispanic residents.   Rocklin as established in 1863 as a railroad town, and finally incorporated in 1893, now occupying 19.9 square miles.   The median family income for Rocklin residents is $72,245 and the per capita income is $26,910.   The city bills itself as "A Family Community", reflecting its current character as a bedroom community to people working in the Sacramento.   Rocklin's economy started as a major granite mining area, with 22 quarries operating in 1910.   While granite mining continues, Rocklin is primarily a bedroom community to the Sacramento metropolatin area.   The natural vegetation around Rocklin consists of Foothill Pine-Blue Oak Woodland and California Annual Grassland.   Additional information about Rocklin can be found at Rocklin Info or at the official Rocklin City site.
