Manhole Covers of Los Osos, California

Los Osos means, the bears, in Spanish, being so named after the fact that early Spanish explorers found many California Grizzly Bears living in the Morro Bay area.   Los Osos occurs at the southern end of Morro Bay.   Los Osos has a population of 14,351 (including Baywood Park) people (2000), consisting of 82.7% White, 9.0% Hispanic, and 4.5% Asian, California Grizzly Bear - 0 (extinct).   The median family income of Los Osos residents is $56,884 (for 2000) and the per capita income is $31,047 (for 2009).   36.9% of Los Osos residents have a Bachelor's degree or higher level of education.

Los Osos is a small-sized community located in the western San Luis Obispo County just south of the City of Morro Bay and adjacent to Baywood Park.   It is at an average elevation of 53 feet above sea level.   Los Osos was established in 1870s, with the first formal school house built in 1872.

No highways pass through Los Osos, but State Route 1 is only about 5 miles to the north, through Morro Bay.   Tourism and fishing has been the primary economy of Los Osos, with it becoming a bedroom community for the San Luis Obispo Valley.   The average commute time for working Los Osos residents is over 22 minutes.   Additional information about Los Osos can be found at Los Osos Info and Los Osos Visitor Info web sites.

I found 3 varieties of manhole covers in Los Osos.
