Manhole Covers of Lemoore, Kings County, California

Lemoore is a small rural farming crossroads town in northern Kings County in the San Joaquin Valley, at an average elevation of around 230 feet above sea level.   Lemoore is a crossroads town, and was named after Dr. Lovern Lee Moore, who made his home there in April 1871, before any of the land in the area was cultivated.   The town used to be on the northern edge of Tulare Lake, then the largest body of water in central California, but the lake dried up in the 1920s.   Dr. Moore laid out a 10-acre subdivision in 1872 to start a local community, wiht lots selling for $75 to $150 each.   The U.S. Post Office rejected the name Latache for the community Post Office and decided on Lemoore in 1873, a form of the founder's name, which was a common practice at the time.   Lemoore was incorporated on 11 July 1900.   The railroad came through the town in 1877.   Wool and wheat were the main commodities of Lemoore in its early years.

Lemoore currently has a population of 19,712 in 2000, and estimated to have grown to 25,461 by 1 January 2010.   Lemore occupies 8.5 square miles.   Lemoore citizens are composed of 59.29% Caucasians, 30.5% Hispanics, 8.37% Asian, 7.28% African-American, and 1.59% Native American.   The median household income for Lemoore residents is $40,314 and the per capita income is $15,876.   About 16.5% of Lemoore citizens over 25 years of age have earned a Bachelor's degree or higher and 79.0% have graduated from high school.

Two highways pass through Lemoore, State Routes 41 and 198.   About 11.6% of Lemoore residents work outside of the city (they commute) and 30% work in town.   Ranching and farming are the primary economy of Lemoore and Kings County; however, Lemoore Naval Air Station nearby is also a major economic engine for the city.   Cotton, fruit, grapes, and nuts are primary crops supporting Lemoore and Kings County.   Dairy farming is very important, first established in Kings County in 1893.   The climate is hot in the summer and cool, often foggy, in the winter, with only about 10 inches of precipitation during the winter months.   Additional information about Lemoore can be found at
City of Lemoore, and everthing you ever could think about knowing about Lemoore Info.

I could find 9 varieties of manhole covers in Lemoore.

Yes, these last two are actually different, look closely (not the fact that one is painted, but it does identify the area to look).
